Spain's
transgender woman Angela Ponce has created history by winning Miss Spain's
title. Now she will be the first transgender woman to participate in Miss
Universe contest from any country.
Angela Ponce
is 26 years old. She won this title by leaving behind 22 beauties in the
national beauty pageant held in Seville, Spain.
Miss Ponce
will now participate in the Miss Universe contest in the Philippines at the end
of this year.
Ponce has
expressed his happiness on Instagram post shortly after the win shared; “Bringing the name and colors of Spain before
the universe is my great dream. My goal is to be a spokesperson for a message
of inclusion, respect and diversity not only for the LGBT community, but also
for the entire world.”
Ponce’s crowning can be deemed iconic, especially since
it comes six years after the Miss Universe organization put an end to the ban
on transgender contestants in the competition.
Angela's height is
5 feet 9 inches. Angela said she had identified herself as a woman at the age
of 3 years. She will now represent Spain in Miss Universe 2018.
Earlier, Angela had participated in the Miss World Spain
contest from Cadiz Province, but she lost to Miss Barcelona Miria Lalaguanas
in this competition.
In 2012, Canadian 29-year-old model Jenna Talackova, fought a legal battle for this, after which the
transgender was allowed in the Miss Universe contest. He was not allowed to
join the competition due to being a transgender.
